We’re starting work on Cairnory Radar: an optional feature designed to help hunters using Cairnory know when other participating users are nearby.

The aim is to help people avoid unknowingly hunting in the same area and reduce the risk of dangerous encounters.

In development

Radar is not available yet. These images show an early design concept, not a working release. Features and appearance may change.

Concept design of an active Cairnory Radar session showing a nearby-participant alert without an exact position.
First look: a nearby-participant alert. Concept design — select the image to view it in full.

Know when someone else is nearby

The current concept lets you enable your presence for a limited session and receive an alert when another active Radar participant is nearby. The designs explore a one-hour session and a 2 km range around your check-in location. These details will be refined as development progresses.

Awareness without revealing your exact position to other users

Our intended approach is to show that another participant is nearby without displaying their exact position to other users. The concept involves sending your check-in location to Cairnory’s server for the session. Location handling, session controls and alert reliability will be part of the development work.

An extra layer of awareness

Radar is intended to recognise only users with an active Radar session. It would not detect every hunter or other person in the area. The absence of an alert would not mean the area is empty or safe. The feature is intended to support awareness, not replace safe hunting practices, communication or personal judgement.

We’ll share further updates as the work progresses. There is no release date to announce yet.
